Belfast Home Invasion: Masked Men Storm House with Children Inside
Masked men stormed a family home in west Belfast on Tuesday evening, triggering panic as residents screamed warnings that young girls were inside. The brazen attack in the Ballymurphy area has left the local community shaken and police investigating what they believe was a targeted incident.
Witnesses described scenes of terror around 7:30 PM when several men, their faces covered, forced entry into the property on Divismore Way. Neighbours reported hearing shouts of „there’s wee girls inside” as the attackers entered the home.
Residents Describe Frightening Scene
The incident unfolded quickly, with locals rushing to intervene. One resident told reporters she heard screaming and ran outside to see masked figures at the door. „You could hear the panic in people’s voices,” she said. „Everyone was shouting about the children. It was absolutely terrifying.”
The men fled the scene within minutes, leaving before police arrived. No injuries were reported, though the family, including the young children, were left badly shaken by the ordeal.
Police Launch Investigation
Police Service of Northern Ireland officers cordoned off the area and began a forensic examination of the property. Detectives are treating this as a targeted attack rather than a random burglary, though they haven’t yet established a clear motive.
„We’re appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward,” a PSNI spokesperson said. „This was a reckless act that put vulnerable people, including children, at risk. We won’t tolerate this kind of criminality in our communities.”
The attack has sparked outrage among local politicians and community leaders. Some have raised concerns about a potential resurgence of paramilitary-style intimidation tactics in certain Belfast neighbourhoods.
Community Left on Edge
Ballymurphy residents say they’re now living in fear. Several families with young children have expressed anxiety about their safety following the incident. Local community centres have offered support services to those affected.
This wasn’t the first such incident in the area this year. In March, a similar attack occurred just streets away, though that home was unoccupied at the time.
Police have increased patrols in the neighbourhood and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby properties. They’re urging anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Divismore Way area between 7:00 and 8:00 PM on Tuesday to contact them immediately. The investigation continues as detectives work to identify the attackers and establish why this particular family was targeted.
