A massive fire tore through industrial units on a farm in Essex on Friday, sending a towering column of black smoke into the sky and prompting a huge emergency response that brought more than 100 firefighters to the scene. A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews worked incredibly hard in challenging conditions to prevent the fire from spreading further and to protect surrounding properties. We ask that people avoid the area while our firefighters continue their work.”
Farm site and industrial units severely damaged
The fire broke out at farm buildings being used as industrial units, a setup increasingly common across rural Essex where agricultural land has been repurposed for commercial use.
