Firebombs thrown at supercars outside Birmingham wedding venue

A luxury car park turned into a scene of chaos Saturday night when firebombs were hurled at a row of high-end supercars parked outside a wedding venue in Birmingham, leaving several vehicles destroyed and guests fleeing in panic.

What happened outside the venue

The attack took place at roughly 10:30 pm near a function hall in the Solihull area of Birmingham, where a private wedding reception was underway. Witnesses described hearing loud bangs before flames tore through at least four vehicles, including what appeared to be a Lamborghini and a Range Rover Sport. The fire spread quickly across the car park, and guests spilled outside to find a wall of orange flame where their cars had been.

West Midlands Fire Service sent three engines to the scene and had the blaze under control within the hour. But the damage was already done.

Police launch investigation

West Midlands Police confirmed they were treating the incident as arson and appealed for witnesses to come forward. Officers cordoned off the car park through the night while forensic teams gathered evidence from the charred remains of the vehicles.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are keeping an open mind as to the motive. We’d urge anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious to contact us immediately.”

No arrests had been made as of Sunday morning. Detectives are understood to be reviewing CCTV footage from the venue and surrounding streets, though it’s unclear yet how much of that footage is usable.

Guests describe night of fear

For the wedding party inside, what should have been a celebration turned into something far darker. One guest, who didn’t want to be named, said people were screaming and running out of the hall when word spread that cars were on fire. Children were among those at the reception.

The scale of financial damage is still being assessed, but supercars of this type routinely carry price tags well above £150,000 each. The total loss could easily run into the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Still, for those who were there, it’s the shock that lingers more than anything else.

Community reaction and next steps

Local councillors have called for calm and urged residents not to speculate about the motive on social media. Birmingham has seen a small number of targeted arson attacks on vehicles in recent years, though an incident of this scale at a private event is highly unusual.

Police are expected to make a fresh public appeal early this week as the investigation picks up pace. Anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 9 pm and midnight on Saturday is being asked to contact West Midlands Police directly.
