Virgin jet engineer dies after accident at Heathrow Airport

A Virgin Atlantic aircraft engineer has died after sustaining serious injuries while working on a jet at Heathrow Airport, with Metropolitan Police officers now investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Georgie Buxton was working on a Virgin Atlantic aircraft at the west London hub when the incident occurred. She was taken to hospital following the accident but later died from her injuries. The exact nature of the accident has not yet been formally confirmed by authorities.

Police and health and safety probe launched

The Met Police confirmed it is investigating the incident alongside the Health and Safety Executive, which has a statutory duty to examine workplace fatalities of this kind. Officers were called to Heathrow in the wake of the accident and have been gathering evidence since.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Heathrow Airport following reports of an injured woman. She was taken to hospital, where she sadly died. Enquiries into the circumstances of her death are ongoing.”

It’s understood that investigators will be examining maintenance logs, safety procedures and any CCTV footage from the area where Buxton was working at the time of the incident.
