Police Officer, 19, Dies from Injuries After Road Crash

A probationary police officer aged just 19 has died from injuries sustained in a road traffic collision, leaving her colleagues and family devastated.

Jess Turnbull passed away following the crash, with her chief constable paying tribute to a young woman who „had so much to look forward to in her career and her life.”

The news has sent shockwaves through the force, where Turnbull had only recently begun her service. She’d been working as a probationary constable, at the very start of what colleagues expected would be a promising career in policing.

Tributes Pour In

The chief constable described the loss as deeply felt across the entire force. Officers who worked alongside Turnbull remembered her enthusiasm and dedication, qualities that had already made an impression despite her short time in uniform.

„Jess had so much to look forward to in her career and her life,” the chief constable said in a statement. „This is a tragic loss for her family, her friends, and all of us who had the privilege of working with her.”

At 19, Turnbull was among the youngest officers in the force. She’d completed her initial training and was gaining practical experience on the job when the collision occurred.

Support for Colleagues and Family

The force has arranged support services for officers and staff affected by Turnbull’s death. Many of her colleagues had formed close bonds with the young officer during her training and early deployment.

But the impact extends far beyond the station walls.

Turnbull’s family is receiving support as they come to terms with their loss. The force hasn’t released details about the circumstances of the crash or when it occurred, but confirmed that appropriate authorities are handling the incident.

A Career Cut Short

Probationary officers typically spend two to three years in training and supervised patrol work before becoming fully qualified constables. Turnbull had barely begun this journey.

The police service has seen its share of tragedies, yet the death of such a young officer strikes a particularly painful chord. She’d chosen a career dedicated to protecting others, only to have her own life cut devastatingly short.

Funeral arrangements haven’t been announced yet. The force says it will continue to support Turnbull’s family through this difficult time and ensure her service, however brief, is properly honoured and remembered by those who knew her.
